If you publish the same kind of article repeatedly — product round-ups, comparison guides, FAQs — templates save you from rebuilding the block structure every time. Available on Growth and above.

What a template captures

When you save an article as a template, BlockPress stores:

The full block document — every block in order, with placeholder content for the parts that change
Default meta fields (optional) — blog, tags, default author
Sidebar settings — which side, which blocks (related products, author bio, etc.)

It does NOT store article-specific content like titles, focus keywords, or images — those should change for each new article.

How to save one

Build the article structure once and dial in the layout
Click the ⋯ menu in the editor toolbar → Save as template
Give it a name (e.g. "Product Round-up", "How-to Guide", "Comparison Post")
Add an optional description for your future self
Save

The template now appears in the Templates dropdown on the New Post screen.

How to use one

Click New post on the dashboard
In the Start from dropdown, pick your saved template
The editor opens with the template's blocks already in place
Replace the placeholder content with your new article's specifics

The per-article SEO score tells you about one post at a time. Article Health audits your entire blog catalog at once — every published article, every check, ranked by priority.

Article Health is a Pro plan feature available at /app/health.

What it does

Article Health runs all 15 SEO checks against every published BlockPress-managed article in your store and presents the results in two views:

Per-article view — every article with its grade, ordered by worst first, with the specific issues listed
Per-issue view — every check across the catalog (e.g. "47 articles missing alt text"), so you can fix categories of problems in bulk

How to use it for the biggest win

The audit will probably show you a long list. Don't try to fix everything. Sort by these signals:

Highest traffic + lowest grade — your top-traffic articles with D/F grades are the highest-leverage fixes. One fix here might move multiple keywords up the SERP.
Most-common issue across articles — if 60 articles share the same missing-alt-text problem, fixing them in a batch is more efficient than article-by-article.
Quick wins — meta descriptions and alt text take seconds per article and move the grade noticeably.

What it doesn't check

Article Health checks on-page issues. It doesn't check:

Every article in BlockPress gets a live SEO score in the editor's right-hand panel. It updates as you type so you can see the impact of every edit. This article explains what each check looks for and how to fix the ones that go red.

The grade

Articles get a letter grade A–F based on how many of the 15 checks pass. The grade is calibrated:

A — 14–15 passes; ship it
B — 11–13 passes; minor fixes worth doing
C — 8–10 passes; meaningful issues
D / F — fewer than 8; needs work before publishing

The grade is non-blocking. You can publish a D-grade article — BlockPress will warn you in the publish modal but won't stop you.

The 15 checks (grouped)

Basics

Title present and 30–65 characters — too short = weak signal; too long = truncated in search results
Slug is keyword-rich and ≤60 characters — clean URLs rank better
Meta description present and 120–160 characters — what shows under your title in search

Content quality

At least 600 words of body content — thin content rarely ranks
Reading level Grade 9 or below (text-readability check) — accessible prose ranks for more queries
At least one H2 every ~300 words — scannable structure for both readers and crawlers

You can change plans any time from inside BlockPress. Shopify handles the proration, so you only pay for what you actually use.

Where to change plans

In the BlockPress dashboard:

Open /app/billing (or click the plan badge in the editor header)
The 4-tier card view shows your Current plan badge and Choose [tier] CTAs on the others
Click Choose Growth / Pro / Max to upgrade or downgrade

Shopify takes over from there — you'll see their familiar approval page showing the new charge, then bounce back to BlockPress with the new tier active.

Upgrades

Take effect immediately
Shopify prorates the charge — you pay the difference for the rest of the current billing period
Your AI quota expands the moment the upgrade confirms (any in-progress overage stops)
Any feature gated to the new tier unlocks instantly (Article Health, Performance, etc.)

Downgrades

Take effect at the end of your current billing period
You keep your current features and quota until that date
If you downgrade Pro → Growth and you've published more than the new author limit, the existing authors stay — but the Add new author button is gated until you're back within the cap

Cancelling

To cancel entirely, downgrade to Free on the billing page. This:

If you've been writing in Shopify's native editor (or another app), you can pull those articles into BlockPress so you get the editor, SEO scoring, and Article Health audit on every post going forward.

How it works

BlockPress doesn't duplicate your articles — it manages the ones that already live on Shopify. Importing means BlockPress parses the existing HTML into block format so you can edit it like any new post.

Steps

Open /app/posts — every article in your Shopify store shows up here
Posts marked as Legacy are articles BlockPress hasn't managed yet
Click any Legacy post to open it in the editor
BlockPress converts the existing HTML into blocks automatically
Save once to mark it as BlockPress-managed — from here on, edits go through the BlockPress editor

What converts cleanly

Headings (H1–H6) → Heading blocks
Paragraphs → Paragraph blocks
Lists (ordered + unordered) → List blocks
Images → Image blocks (with srcset regenerated on save)
Embeds (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter) → Embed blocks

What might need cleanup

Custom HTML (raw <div> layouts, theme-specific shortcodes) — preserved as a Raw HTML block but may need re-styling
